Title Towards Sustainable Urbanization: Canada/UN-HABITAT Initiatives, 1976-2006 Day / Time Tuesday, June 20th / 16:30 - 18:30 Room MR03 Event Description Canada has a long and noble history of creative initiatives at the UN, urging Member Nations and the UN itself to frame and implement policies, programs and projects to improve urban living, within, beyond, and through settlements. Canada’s foreign-policy initiatives through the UN usually parallelled domestic goals. Domestic programs of improving city life were linked to comparable initiatives overseas and vice-versa. In addition, Canada’s initiatives have always reflected its commitment to connect issues of natural and built environment for human settlements. IDRC’s generous research grant together with Western Economic Diversification, and UBC's contribution enabled a research team at Centre for Human Settlements (CHS) to assemble and review the ebb and flow of Canada’s initiatives over three decades.
