Visit the Canada Pavilion and the Global Municipal
Village in the Exposition
The Canada Pavilion and the Municipal Global Village were among the not-to-be-missed attractions on the WUF3 Exposition floor. Showcasing more than 25 booths and kiosks, the Pavilion demonstrated how partnerships among government, the private sector and community organizations contribute to strong and healthy cities and communities in Canada.
The Canada Pavilion featured 15 Government of Canada departments and agencies, including:
- Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC)
- The International Development Research Centre (IDRC)
- The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA)
- Transport, Infrastructure and Communities Canada

The Municipal Global Village was hosted by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) and was located in the Canada Pavilion. It was a meeting place for municipal officials from around the world. Regional, national and global associations of municipal governments were represented in the Village. A key feature of the Canada Pavilion and the Municipal Global Village was the Townhall stage, where visitors could attend presentations, award ceremonies, discussions, films, cultural shows and other exciting events during the conference. Click here to view the floor plan.
What Attendees Found in the Canada Pavilion and the Municipal Global Village
- Interactive panel discussions about the role of sport as a tool for social inclusion
- Discussions on how Canadian technology and know-how help other countries enhance their housing
- Celebrations on National Aboriginal Day (June 21), featuring with an array of shows and cultural performances
- Information about how Canada�s National Homelessness Initiative encourages innovative and progressive co-operation to alleviate homelessness
- Participation in the CitizenShift Webcam project to show where attednees came from by planting their flag on Infrastructure Canada's world map
- Information about the types of clean air activities, programmes and tools available to communities in Canada
- Information about smart choices for building (and participants could take home a Parliament of Canada copper pin)
- Demonstrations of how innovative use of technologies help mitigate the negative impacts of transportation on the environment
- Critical films that dealt with the themes of WUF3
- Information about how successful immigration strengthens the economic, cultural and social sustainability of cities and communities
- Information on many green infrastructure projects
- Information about Canada's initiatives in responding to urbanization in the developing world
