About The Role of the Government of Canada
In the spirit of the legacy established in 1976 during the first UN conference on human settlements also held in Vancouver, the Government of Canada, in partnership with UN-HABITAT, ensured that the Forum provided urban leaders with an opportunity to network with colleagues and potential partners, in addition to generating practical and actionable urban development ideas that delegates took home to their cities.
One of Canada's key responsibilities as host was to ensure follow-up on the actionable ideas conceived in Vancouver. The Government of Canada's efforts to encourage and measure this follow-up included working closely with UN-HABITAT and China - the hosts of WUF4 in 2008 - to ensure continuity and to sustain the momentum generated at WUF3.
